Welcome to Ponta de Sol
Ponta do Sol is a Portuguese municipality on the island of Madeira, Autonomous Region of Madeira, with headquarters in the parish of the same name.
It has 46.19 km² and 8 862 inhabitants, subdivided into three parishes.
The settlement of Ponta do Sol occurs around 1425, shortly after the discovery of the island, by Portuguese settlers from Minho, Beiras and Algarve.
On December 2, 1501, by license of D. Manuel I, this village is elevated to the category of town and municipality.
